The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Inner Mongolia University, formerly known as the Department of Chemistry of Inner Mongolia University, was established in 1957, and was one of the earliest teaching units when Inner Mongolia University was founded. When it was founded, some young teachers were transferred from Peking University, Jilin University, Nankai University and other universities to form a basic teaching team.

At present, the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering has chemistry department, chemical engineering department, Mongolian medicine chemistry research institute, dairy quality and safety control technology engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, and large-scale instrument analysis and testing center. The first-level disciplines covered are: chemistry, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology. There are four two disciplines in chemistry, namely inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry. There are two disciplines under material science and engineering: material physics and chemistry. There are two disciplines under chemical engineering and technology: applied chemistry. Chemistry was included in the key construction discipline of "2 1 1 project" in the 11th Five-Year Plan. Inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and its application have become key disciplines at the autonomous region level.
