Chinese translation of Zelensky’s speech to the U.S. Congress

Dear Americans, in all states, cities, and communities, all those Americans who value freedom and justice just as strongly as the Ukrainian people in our cities and in every home. Cherishing freedom and justice, I hope that my words of respect and gratitude will resonate in the hearts of every American.

Ms. Vice President, thank you for your efforts to help Ukraine. Madam Speaker, you bravely visited Ukraine in the midst of total war. Thank you very much, it's a great honor, thank you.

I am honored to stand here, dear members of Congress, members of both parties who have visited Kyiv, and distinguished senators and representatives who I am sure will visit Ukraine soon; Dear Representatives of the Diaspora, Whether you are in the halls of Congress or elsewhere across the United States; Dear Journalists, it is a great honor to address you and all the American people in the United States Congress.

In the face of all difficulties and misfortunes, Ukraine did not fall. Ukraine is now full of energy and energy. Thank you. This gives me a good reason to share our first common victory with you. We defeated Russia in the battle for hearts and minds. We have no fear, and neither should anyone in this world. The Ukrainian people won this victory and it gave us the courage to inspire the entire world.

The American people won this victory, and that's why you succeeded in uniting the international community to protect freedom and international law. The people of Europe won this victory, and that is why Europe is now stronger and more independent than ever. The Russian tyranny has lost its grip on us, and they will never again have the slightest influence on our will.

However, we must do whatever is necessary to ensure that third world countries also win this victory. I also know something that I think is very important: Only when the Russian people defeat the Kremlin in their hearts will they have a chance to be free. However, the war must go on, and yes, we must defeat the Kremlin on the battlefield.

This battle is not just for territory, not just for Europe, not just for the life, freedom and security of the Ukrainian people, and not just for other countries that are threatened by Russia. This battle will determine what kind of world our children and grandchildren will live in, and will determine what kind of world our children and grandchildren will live in.

It will determine whether there will ever be democracy in Ukraine, for Americans and for everyone. This battle cannot be frozen, delayed, or ignored. Don't imagine that the ocean or anything else can provide

safety. From the United States to China, to Europe to Latin America, from Africa to Australia, the world is so closely connected and interdependent that no one side can remain aloof while this battle continues. , feel safe.

In this battle, our two countries are allies, and next year will be a turning point. I know that the courage of the Ukrainians and the determination of the Americans will ensure that we have a common freedom. ’s future must ensure the freedom of those who uphold its values.

Ladies and gentlemen, Americans, yesterday, before coming here, I went to the Bakhmut Front in Donbass, one of our strongholds in the east. Since May, Russian troops and mercenaries have been attacking Bahmut day and night without stopping. But Bahmut remained standing.

Last year, 70,000 people lived in Bahmut, but now, only a few civilians remain there. Every inch of the land there was soaked in blood, and the roar of guns could be heard every moment. In fierce fighting, even hand-to-hand combat, the trenches in the Donbas region can change hands several times a day. But Ukraine's Donbass still stand.

The Russians use everything they have to attack Bahmut and our other beautiful cities. The occupiers had a significant advantage in artillery fire, and they also had an advantage in ammunition. They have more aircraft and more missiles than we ever have, that's a fact. But our troops still stand. We are all proud of them.

Russian tactics are primitive, they burn and destroy everything they see. They send thugs to the front lines and criminals to battlefields. They used whatever means necessary, and like other tyrannies, in the Battle of the Bulge, the Nazis used whatever means necessary in the face of the free world. Just as brave American soldiers held their ground and fought back against Hitler's troops during Christmas in 1944, brave Ukrainian soldiers are doing the same thing this Christmas.

Ukraine held the line and would never surrender. On the front lines, tyranny is full of cruelty to the lives of free people. Your support is vital, not just to stay the course in this fight, but to reach the tipping point of winning the war.

Yes, we have artillery, thank you, we do. But is this enough? Honestly, not enough. To ensure that Bakhmut is not just a stronghold that can resist the Russian army, but a stronghold that can allow all Russian troops to retreat, we also need more cannons and ammunition. If so, like the victory at Saratoga, the situation at Bahmut will become a turning point in our fight for independence and freedom. (World Note: The Battle of Saratoga was a turning point in the American Revolution).

If your Patriot missile system can prevent Russian terrorist attacks on our cities, then Ukrainian patriots will do their best to protect our freedom. When Russian artillery cannot hit our cities, it tries to destroy them with missiles. Not only that, in this policy of extermination, Russia has also found an ally: Iran. Iran has sent hundreds of deadly drones to Russia. These drones pose a threat to our critical infrastructure.

If we don't stop them now, it's only a matter of time before they attack your other allies. We have to stop them and I believe that within our alliance there should be no taboos. Ukraine has never asked American soldiers to replace us and fight on our soil. I assure you that Ukrainian soldiers will operate American tanks and aircraft flawlessly.

Financial aid is also critical, and I want to thank you, thank you very much, for the financial aid you have provided us and the assistance you are willing to provide. The money you give us is not charity, but an investment in global security and democracy. We are handling this money in the most responsible manner.

Russia can stop its aggression, really, if it wants to. But you can speed up our pace of victory. I know. It would also prove to all would-be invaders that no one can successfully breach international borders, no one can commit atrocities and rule against the will of a people. It would be naive to wait for Russia to move toward peace. Russia has been poisoned by the Kremlin.

Rebuilding the international legal order is our common task. Yes, we need peace. Ukraine has proposed, and I have discussed with President Biden, our peace framework. For the security of our community and the holding of summits in the next few decades, there are 10 points that should and must be done.

I am pleased to say that President Biden supports the peace initiative we are proposing today. Every one of you, ladies and gentlemen, bipartisan, bicameral, can help us get it done to ensure steadfast American leadership. Thank you.

You can tighten sanctions to make Russia feel how devastating its aggression is. Really, it's your power to help us bring to justice everyone who starts this unprovoked criminal war. Let us do this and hold terrorist countries accountable for their acts of terror and aggression and make them pay for the damage caused by this war. Let the world see America is here.

Ladies and gentlemen, Americans, in two days we will celebrate Christmas, perhaps by candlelight. Not because it was romantic, but because we had no electricity. Millions of people will have neither heat nor running water. All of these would be consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on our energy infrastructure.

But we won’t complain, we won’t judge and compare whose life is easier. Your well-being is the product of your national security, your fight for independence and your many victories. We, the people of Ukraine, will also survive our war for independence and freedom with dignity and victory.

We will celebrate Christmas, and even without electricity, the light of our faith will not be extinguished. If a Russian missile attacks us, we will do our best to protect ourselves. If they attack us with Iranian-made drones, our people will have to hide in bomb shelters on Christmas Eve. The people of Ukraine will still sit around the table together and celebrate each other’s holidays. We don’t know, and we don’t need to know, everyone’s wishes, because each of us already knows them. Millions of Ukrainians have the same desire: victory, and only victory.

Together with you, we build a strong Ukraine with a strong people, a strong army and strong institutions. Together with you, we have developed strong security guarantees, not just for our country, but for Europe and the world as a whole. Likewise, together with you, we will bring peace to everyone who despises freedom. (Global note: Zelensky used the homophones of “Putin” and “put in” here)

This will be the basis for defending democracy in Europe and the world. Now, on this important Christmas occasion, I want to thank you all. I am grateful to every American family who wants to spread warmth; I am grateful to President Biden and members of both parties, to the Senate and the House of Representatives, for your immeasurable help. Thank you to your cities and citizens for supporting Ukraine this year, to those who hosted the Ukrainian people and to those who waved our flag for doing what they did to help us. On behalf of everyone on the front lines, on behalf of everyone waiting for victory, thank you.

As I stand here today, I recall President Franklin D. Roosevelt's war, which I believe could not be more opportune in this moment. The American people, with their righteous power, won absolute victory. The Ukrainian people will also achieve that victory, absolutely.

I know that everything depends on ourselves, on the Ukrainian army, but we also depend on the world. There is a lot in this world that depends on you. When I was in Bakhmut yesterday, our heroes gave me a flag, a fighting flag, a flag of the heroes who defended Ukraine, Europe and the world with their lives. They asked me to bring this flag to you, to the United States Congress, to the members of the House and Senate whose decisions could save millions of lives.

So make a decision and let this flag stay with you. Ladies and gentlemen, in this war, this flag is a symbol of our victory. We stand, we fight, and we will prevail because we - Ukraine, the United States, and the entire free world, are united.

One more thing, if I can, this is the last thing, thank you. May God bless our brave troops and citizens, and may God always bless the United States of America. Merry Christmas and a happy and victorious New Year. Glory belongs to Ukraine!
