Golmud is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Qinghai Province, named after the Golmud River in the territory. The standard pronunciation is "Golmud", which means "a place with dense rivers". In the Republic of China, 1955 was translated as "Golmud" and 1960 was simplified as "Golmud".
