Jianshui Ancient Town One-day tour of Shui Ancient City:

As soon as you enter the village, you will feel a simple atmosphere. Most of the ancient houses are civil structures, and the walls that are falling off piece by piece show their age.

The wooden doors and windows are beautifully carved with various symbolic patterns and words, and the slogans from the Cultural Revolution period left on them add to its sense of the times.

Following the village tour guide, we first came to Zhangjia Garden through the winding path. Zhangjia Garden is one of the four major gardens in Jianshui, second only to Zhujia Garden in the ancient city. It is the private residence of Zhang Hanting, a descendant of the Zhang family, and is the main representative of Tuanshan folk residences. The house was built in the 31st year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty. It consists of a first courtyard, a second courtyard and a garden ancestral hall.

The front yard is the flower hall, which is paved with bluestone slabs, flower stands, bluestone water tanks and flowers and trees; the middle yard is the main room where the family members live, and the backyard is the main room where the elders live. The Garden Ancestral Hall is on the left side of the gate, with a spacious courtyard and a pool in the middle. The ancestral hall is located on a high platform with more than a dozen steps, solemn and elegant.

Following the flow of people, we went up to the second floor. We heard people say that this is the lady’s embroidery building. A picture immediately appeared in my mind, of a young lady in ancient costume, leaning on the railing alone in spring, looking at the pool of water, looking full of spring sorrow.

And I sat on the wooden chair beside the railing with a smile and happily took a picture. In ancient times, young ladies could only look at the scenery in the courtyard from the embroidery building, but I could travel across mountains and rivers and walk around, which was a great pleasure!

Out of the garden , the tour guide took us around the village to see several representative houses.

Huang En Mansion was named after the old mother of the owner was conferred the title of Anren by Emperor Qianlong. There is a plaque of "Huang En Jing Biao" hanging on the door. It is said to be the largest residential courtyard in Tuanshan Village.

The masters of Xiucai Mansion are a pair of scholar brothers. However, in the troubled times of the late Qing Dynasty, the two abandoned literature and engaged in business. They can be regarded as Confucian businessmen. The Xiucai brothers opened Tianjichang Trading Company in Jianshui, which mainly dealt in tin products produced in Gejiu. However, their family still named themselves "Xiucai Mansion", and it seems that they were still proud of their literary name.

Dacheng Temple, located outside the south gate of the village, is one of the three temples in Tuanshan Village and the only temple that still serves as the center of religious ritual activities. There is a large well with a diameter of 2 meters in front of the door, which is the main source of domestic water for the villagers.
