At present, in most cases, the damage of weighbridges is caused by transient overvoltage coupled by resistance or capacitance. All the power and signal lines introduced into the exhibition room, as well as the signal lines and power lines connected to the stressed parts (sensors) of the weighbridge outdoors should be equipped with overvoltage protection devices.

This scheme is based on the fact that both the weighbridge and the weighing room need to be grounded to prevent direct lightning strike. So, what are the lightning protection measures for the weighbridge? Please refer to the following explanation:

1. The metal conduit passing through the signal cable must also be connected to the grounding grid.

2. The junction box should be grounded.

3. Each sensor should have protective grounding.

4. The whole platform should be grounded, and the scale body should be connected to the grounding pile with one or several grounding cables. The grounding pile should be in the zero zone, with constant potential and grounding resistance less than 4 ohms.

5. A lightning rod should be set above the scale body to neutralize the charge in the cloud through the tip discharge effect, so that the electronic truck scale will not be damaged by lightning.

6. The rapid change of current in lightning channel forms electromagnetic radiation.

7. The shielding layer of the signal cable of the load cell should be grounded.

Tips: Stress elements, amplifiers and display devices are easily damaged by lightning.
