I have never been a soldier, but I imagine there should be a cycle for cleaning guns. When the weather is wet, the cycle is shorter. When drying, the cycle is longer. Always clean when the wind and sand are heavy. Only when the weather is good and dry can the time be appropriately extended. You should clean your gun every time you shoot.

If you clean the gun, you must clean it all, especially the rifling and bore of the barrel. After wiping, there should be a thin oil film on the gun surface to protect the metal part and isolate the metal from the air to prevent rust and oxidation.
