Soldier’s Story

1. On November 14, 2006, while returning from a training mission, Li Jianying was hit by a flock of pigeons and the engine stopped mid-air. At this time, the height of the aircraft is 194 meters, and parachuting can save your life. In 16 seconds, in order to protect people's lives and national property, he gave up the opportunity to escape by parachuting three times and chose to make an emergency landing without hesitation.

During the emergency landing, the aircraft was blocked by the slope protection of a water channel above the ground, exploded and disintegrated, and Comrade Li Jianying died heroically. In 16 seconds, he used his life to write a beautiful hymn of the people's army's love for the people. Li Jianying has been awarded second-class merit once and third-class merit twice. On December 6, 2006, the Air Force Party Committee posthumously awarded him first-class merit and the "Air Force Meritorious Flying Personnel" gold medal of honor.

2. In a military operation more than 20 years ago, Ding Xiaobing lost his right arm. When the hero was surrounded by flowers and praises, a college student from Nanjing University of Aeronautics wrote him a letter. The words in the letter surprised Ding Xiaobing: To become a hero, you have only passed the first level. If you have such an opportunity, I might as well be a hero.

I don’t admire you now. If there are still deeds from you in 10 or 20 years, by then, you will fully deserve the title of hero.

Twenty years have passed, and Ding Xiaobing has never forgotten this letter. From the company instructor, officer, battalion instructor, director of the regiment political office to the regiment political commissar, Ding Xiaobing handed over an excellent "reply letter": the group he led has won 248 medals, certificates and 36 trophies.

3. During the earthquake relief battle in Sichuan in May 2008, Li Long, who had served as the deputy captain of the special service brigade of the Zhengzhou Public Security Fire Detachment, and his comrades were not afraid of sacrifice in an extremely dangerous environment and continued to fight During the battle, 57 people were rescued from the rubble, five of whom survived, including Li Qingsong who was trapped for 104 hours and Bian Gangfen who was trapped for 124 hours, creating miracles of life rescue one after another.

Li Long has participated in more than 3,170 fire-fighting and rescue operations, rescued more than 760 people in distress, and made outstanding contributions to protecting the safety of the people. He has won first-class personal merit once, second-class merit once, and third-class merit three times; he has won honorary titles such as the "May 4th Youth Medal", the "Fire Fighting and Rescue Vanguard" of the Public Security Fire Force, and the "National Earthquake Relief Model".

4. On May 13, 2008, when the troops received an order to rush to the disaster area, Wu Wenbin was told to stay behind. The usually mild-tempered man became anxious and insisted on going to the front line. On the evening of June 17, he and his comrades braved heavy rain to unload all eight trucks of 50-ton prefabricated house building materials, and then collapsed on the muddy ground from exhaustion. That night, he ended his young life due to excessive pulmonary hemorrhage due to overexertion.

5. On the morning of November 30, 2007, Meng Xiangbin took his wife Ye Qinghua and daughter to the city for shopping. When passing Tongji Bridge, a young woman who committed suicide jumped from the bridge more than 10 meters high. Meng Xiangbin rushed to the bridge, took off his clothes, and jumped into the water to save people regardless of the cold water.

When the rescue motorboat gradually approached them, Meng Xiangbin used his last strength to lift the young woman out of the water and handed her into the hands of the rescuers, but he sank into the water again. On December 4, at the funeral of Meng Xiangbin, nearly 30,000 people from Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province rushed to the Jinhua Funeral Home from all directions to see off Meng Xiangbin, a hero who sacrificed himself to save others.
