The origin of Father’s Day

The origins of Father's Day can be traced back to the early 20th century. In 1909, a woman named Renault Smith Dawson organized a celebration for fathers in Spokane, Washington, USA. Reno's father raised six children on his own during the American Civil War, and she wanted to express her gratitude for his hard work. She promoted the event in a variety of ways, including calling on people to pray for fathers during prayers at local churches and hanging "Celebrate Dads" signs in store windows around the city.

In 1910, Reno contacted a local women's group hoping to celebrate Father's Day nationwide. On June 19 of the same year, the first official Father's Day event was held in Spokane, Washington, USA, with more than 1,000 participants.

In 1916, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson declared the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day and expressed the hope that this day would become a national celebration. As time goes by, Father's Day gradually becomes popular across the United States. In 1972, President Richard Nixon officially designated Father's Day as a national holiday.

The origin of Father's Day is not only in the United States, but other countries began to celebrate this holiday at different times.
