From literary revolution to revolutionary literature

Cheng Fangwu

......

The first kind of work of the New Culture Movement is old ideas Negation, the second type of work is the introduction of new ideas. However, neither aspect has achieved the desired results. This is because people engaged in these two types of work have incompletely negated old ideas and are even less responsible for introducing new ideas. …

In its early stages, the literary movement had roughly the same tendencies as the New Culture Movement. Hu Shi and his like could never get rid of the old tone, and the translations produced by the Literary Research Society were comparable to those of the *** Society. Opposite to the "Chinese Studies Movement" is the "New Punctuation" school, but in fact they are just random punctuation.

What sustained the movement of the literary revolution and prevented it from perishing with the New Culture Movement was the creative efforts after the 10th century. At this time, the Creation Society had officially taken the stage and was constantly fighting against the harsh environment. Its writers, with their spirit of resistance and their fresh style, have developed an original spirit in the literary world within four or five years, which has provided a lot of stimulation to ordinary young people. They guided the direction of the literary revolution and took the lead in moving forward. They swept away all fake literary criticism and expelled some poor translations. They were the most complete negators of old ideas and literature, and they fought for the All-Literary Movement with sincere enthusiasm and critical attitude.

......

It is this creative effort that saved our entire literary revolution movement. With the spirit of resistance, sincere enthusiasm, critical attitude and continuous efforts, the Creation Society on the one hand provides encouragement and comfort to the awakened young people, and on the other hand, it works continuously to complete our genre. Inspired by the Creation Society, the "printing, posting, profiting, and pursuing Asia" throughout the country continue to struggle. The fire of the literary revolution is still burning. Fortunately, a division has been preserved in the New Culture Movement.

......

Regarding the investigation of the current stage of the literary revolution, there is also a special phenomenon in Beijing that must be said. This is the stuff of Zhou Zuoren's school centered on "Yu Si". Their slogan is "fun"; I have said before that what they reserve is "leisure, leisure, the third leisure"; they represent the leisure bourgeoisie, or the petty bourgeoisie sleeping in a drum. They are ahead of the times; they have been living like this for many years, and if the smoky atmosphere in Beijing does not need a hundred thousand taels of smokeless gunpowder to explode, they may live like this forever.

......

Literature is one of the superstructures in the entire organization of society; apart from the whole, we cannot understand each part. We must study literature in terms of the entire structure of society. Only in this way can we get true understanding.

......

Capitalism has developed to its final stage (imperialism), and the reform of all human society has come to the present. Under the double oppression of the entire capitalist and feudal forces, we have already started our national revolution with a limp, but our literary movement - a branch of the entire liberation movement - still has its eyes open and is marching in the clear sky. Looking for the vague residual dreams of the past.

......

If we still take up the responsibility of the revolutionary "Yin Tie Li Geng Chai Ya", we have to deny ourselves again (negation of negation), we To strive to gain class consciousness, we must make our media close to the terms of the peasant and worker masses, and we must make the peasant and worker masses our target.

In other words, our future literary movement should be for further progress, one step forward, from literary revolution to revolutionary literature!

......

Capitalism has reached its last day, and the world has formed two battle fortresses. On one side is the isolated city of "Fascism", the residual poison of capitalism, and on the other side is the A united front of the agricultural and industrial masses of the world. Every cell is organizing for the purpose of fighting, and literary and artistic workers should take charge of a division. go ahead! Haven't you heard this majestic cry?

No one is allowed to stand in the middle.

You come here, or you go there!
