Tibetan traditional festivals

Traditional Tibetan festivals include Sagadawa Festival, Sutton Festival and Tibetan Bathing Festival.

1, Sagadawa Festival

April 15 of the Tibetan calendar every year is the famous Sagadawa Festival in Tibet, also known as the auspicious day for the Buddha. April 15 in Tibetan calendar is an extraordinary day for Buddhist believers. The birth, awakening and death of the Buddha (Sakyamuni) all happened on April 15 in the Tibetan calendar.

During the Sagadawa period, various monasteries and temples in Tibet will hold various Buddhist activities, and believers will turn to prayer. This is also a festival of giving. On this day, the streets and alleys of Lhasa are full of beggars. Because this day is auspicious, as long as you do good deeds, your blessings will be more, so as long as beggars reach out like you.

Generally, local people will give generously, so this day is also a good day to beg. Even Sagadawa Festival is called "the day of the poor" and "the day of begging" by our mainlanders. This day is also taboo, for example, you can't kill anything on this day. When the host pours butter tea for you, the guests can't hold the tea with their hands until the host holds the tea in front of them.

2. Snowden Festival

June 30th of the Tibetan calendar is the grand Snowdon Festival in Lhasa every year. "Snow" means "yogurt" and "meal" means "eating" in Tibetan, so the Snow Festival is also called "the festival of eating yogurt". Due to the grand Buddha exhibition, the Sutton Festival, also known as the Buddha Exhibition Festival, is one of the most grand traditional festivals in Lhasa.

The activities during the Snowdon Festival include: Buddhist exhibitions, especially in drepung monastery. At that time, Lhasa was full of people who flocked to the back hill of drepung monastery to see the Buddha exhibition. The scene is spectacular; Longwangtan Scenic Park and Norbulingka will hold Tibetan opera performances with ethnic characteristics, and vivid Tibetan opera performances will show you the unique ethnic culture of Tibet.

Celebrating Karin (Karin means having a picnic in Chinese mainland) and drinking yogurt at the Sutton Festival are one of the unchanging themes. The family will find a green grass and green water, barbecue and drink yogurt, which will make them happy.

3. Tibetan Bathing Festival

The fourth day of August in the Tibetan calendar is a famous bathing festival in Tibet every year. Bath Festival is commonly known as the day when everyone takes a bath together. At that time, men, women and children will go to the river to take a bath, and the bedding and some furniture at home will be moved out and cleaned once.

Every family will also set up tents in the shade of the river, buy some delicious food, get together with friends, raise a glass and sing loudly, which is very lively. I am looking forward to this festival very much. I can not only enjoy delicious food, but also see beautiful women with hibiscus by the Lhasa River.
