Hello, I'm Zhang Jian from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and I'm also the instructor of the life design studio. I want to share some stories about design and education with you here.

Over the years, our studio has won many awards. Every year, students are basically either receiving awards or on the way to receiving them.

Also trained a group of designers.

I often say this to my students: I hope they regard design as a god and treat themselves as people. In other words, we should have a sense of awe in this profession called design, and at the same time, we should express our inner feelings very honestly and sincerely without being disturbed by other external factors.

Next, I will share with you some design works with wide brain holes.

I don't like playing cards very much. I always put the bombs aside and pile them together, and then there are too many cards to catch.

What shall we do? My students made this design and made two circles on the top and bottom of the playing cards. This is very convenient. Put the gloves in.

This is also a student's work. There is a mirror in front of the sink, which is made at an oblique angle. When we wash our hands, this mirror can shine on the zipper of our pants, reminding us to zip it up.

When we weigh ourselves, we don't want to wear clothes, otherwise the weight will be called gross weight, not net weight. But it is very cold when weighing, especially in winter.

Well, we put a hanger next to the scale. When you sleep at night, take off your clothes and hang them on a hanger, which will help you calculate the weight of your clothes. The next morning, when you put on that suit and weigh it, you can scrape the weight off it.

We sometimes stew soup. When the soup is cooked, the heat will beep and it will jump out easily. So, the students made a small pillar on the edge of the pot cover and opened a corner on the edge of the pot. When stewing soup, move the column, and the hot air will come out, so the soup will not exist.

Many cans are hard to open, especially the oval canned shad sold on the street. Sometimes you can't pull it in the middle.

So, we bought several cans and made some attempts. Finally, it is found that if the cans are made into a trapezoid, it will be more interesting and it will be labor-saving to pull them out.

We can imagine an alcoholic wandering the road with a wine bottle. We all think this is a terrible thing. How to avoid this drunkard?

We made a bell under the bottle. When the drunk is wandering around, the bell will remind us that the drunk is coming.

This is the public chopsticks in Guangdong. When we take chopsticks to deliver food to our mouth, there is a small copper bead in the chopsticks, which will collide with the bottom of the chopsticks and make a "clanking sound" to remind you that this is a public chopsticks to avoid embarrassment.

The name of this cup is "please". After the general guests come, we bring a cup of hot tea, and the guests can only hold very hot cups. We made a small ring under the cup, which has such a height difference from the handle of the cup, which further reflects our respect for the guests.

Sometimes when we drink red wine, we have to put this bottle of red wine flat to prevent the air from entering oxidation. So I made a bow tie next to the wine bottle, which I can lay down to add a gentleman's flavor to the red wine.

20 12 opened a seat and has been invited until now. I'm almost 50 years old. I used to wear short-sighted glasses, but now I am old. I am often asked to read some materials at some meetings, and I can't see them clearly.

Students may have made me such a badge. There is a magnifying glass in front of you. When attending the graduation thesis review, as long as you look at it with your own name tag, many words will be enlarged.

This pruning shears may also be designed for me. Planting flowers after retirement, if your eyes are too old to see, you may "snap" and cut off that flower at once. The students made a magnifying glass on the pliers, which can be observed while cutting.

It seems that all this is done for me. There is something wrong with my shoulder. Sometimes sticking a dog skin plaster, sometimes not sticking to the most painful place. If you tear it off, the plaster will stick together.

So the students divided the plaster into three and a half parts. After the middle circle is torn off, aim at the very painful point first and click it. Please press correctly before tearing the left and right pieces.

Actually, I have a better idea. There is something wrong with my shoulder. I wonder if it is possible for me to hang a number in the Chinese medicine hospital first and let the doctor mark the acupuncture points with a red ballpoint pen. Then I quickly rode a small bike to the tattoo shop and got tattoos on my body. So that I can press the tattoo point without wearing this dress in the future.

A classmate made a teapot. Because the old man likes to dish a teapot, she made some corners on the teapot and massaged her hands while doing it.

Sometimes tearing an envelope in a hurry will tear the letter. We punched many small holes in the edge of the envelope, called ant lines. Before tearing up the letter, you can look at the light to see if the letter is in that position.

Once I went to a concert and it rained heavily. The waiter gave me an umbrella cover and put it in. After a while, there was water in it. I think it would be nice if there was a fish in it. I've been thinking about it all through the concert. I don't know much about music.

When I came back, I printed a small fish on the silk screen inside the umbrella.

We often get lost in our eyes when cleaning the ceiling. So a student thought: is it possible to make a trumpet-shaped container on the broom and let the ash fall in?

We also do some public welfare design. This is for housewives. A small stool is attached to the washboard, so that the washboard won't shake up and down when washing clothes.

Sometimes we cross the road with our bicycles on the overpass. It is much more convenient to make a shoulder cushion under the bicycle.

Many marathon runners have the habit of drinking water while running and pouring the water on their heads. The student thinks: Is it possible that this water-fetching thing is a shower head?

These are some of the previous design works of our studio. Although these works are full of brains, I always feel that it is a bit like luck and luck to find creative points every time. Five or six years ago, many colleagues said that our idea was to play a clever trick of shaking our heads.

We are also very confused, and we are also looking for a specific design method and way of thinking to make it an inexhaustible thing.

Many students said to me, "I have fallen madly in love with life. Why can't I find creativity?" Design, sometimes it is really difficult.

Our design is unwilling to find the so-called "pain point". I often discuss with students that when a designer feels pain before making a design, what kind of numbness is it?

What we hope more is to make some products without problems, make them more extraordinary, and convey some feelings we want to express.

The next few pictures will be a bit boring. (You can skip it. ) is one of our main design ideas in recent years. We discuss the possibility of product existence from human behavior and psychology. People's behavior and psychology are our sources of inspiration.

There is a very important word here-environment.

We may all think that the environment is just a limitation. But all our daily perceptions and experiences take place in this environment. It is not a limitation, but a source.

Just like the current cultural and creative products, it is worth our reflection. Have you found that cultural and creative products in scenic spots are rarely sold in cities? You bought Wenchuang in the canteen near the scenic spot, just after you visited that environment. After taking it home, it has nothing to do with your home environment and office environment. Sometimes we think this thing is like chicken ribs. Neither throw nor stay.

Japanese designer naoto fukasawa gave an example of clothes hook. As an outsider, we will feel that this coat hook is very crude and rough.

But have you ever thought about the very refreshing feeling of really getting this board and nail, especially when nailing?

Another Japanese designer made a shredder. The pieces of paper in this shredder fell like fallen leaves.

If we were normal designers, such as me, we might make a small basket below to catch scraps of paper. But the designer deliberately spread it all over the floor. When you sweep the fallen leaves all over the floor with a broom and dustpan, you can really feel the feeling of autumn.

Children are not fish, but the happiness of fish in peace? You are not in that environment, how can you feel the happiness in it?

Environment is really important, it produces a lot of experience, perception and emotion, which designers can use.

From these feelings and experiences, we have several creative ways. The first way is to sketch or modify objective experience and human perception.

These are the notes written by some students when I was running a workshop in sichuan fine arts institute on October 20-July.

The first student said that she would make a doormat, and one corner of the doormat was inclined. Make a steel sheet inside and keep it. When the guests come, TA will rub it with her feet when she sees the doormat tilted. It's still sticky after wiping. Rub it again, but it's still stuck-ta suddenly realized that the owner told me to shine shoes. So I rubbed my other foot. This is how design uses people's perception and psychology.

The second one is yogurt. Sometimes when we open the yogurt, we always feel like licking the thick yogurt on the lid of the yogurt. But licking the lid in the street can be a bit embarrassing.

So how to avoid this embarrassment? Some students said that if the yogurt cover is made into Oreo's appearance, it would be natural to lick and twist it like a TV advertisement, and it would not be embarrassing.

This last one is a bit funny. It was put forward by a girl. She said, "Teacher Zhang, you have to answer me honestly. Have you ever looked back at your habit of defecating after going to the toilet? " I thought about it, and it seems that there really is.

She said, if there is, why can't we do some design for this behavior? For example, can you mark the color and dryness of the stool beside the toilet? Your humidity is too heavy, your anger is too strong, and so on. ...

What an interesting idea.

We sometimes have meetings. When we are tired of remembering things, we always leave our pens in our notebooks. There are wavy grooves in this book, and you will think, Wow, this pen really suits it.

That kind of feeling, just like in the dead of night, we have lost all the TV programs and the screen is snowing.

When we save small change, we hope to leave some money outside for taking the subway and taking the bus. The author combines the piggy bank with the small plate, which can not only save money, but also collect change.

Another student made a bowl into a piggy bank. Because when she was a child, she would hide some delicious food in a bowl.

I suggested, "Would you like to put a plate under your piggy bank?" He said, "Teacher, I don't want it." Because saving money is not the main thing, it is just a process. The most important thing is the feeling of saving all the money, lifting this bowl and spilling money all over the table. That feeling is what she wants to express.

In hotels, there are often disposable shower gels with small tubes. After calculation, we found that squeezing in the middle position is the most performance-disposable squeezing shower gel. We bumped into each other in this position.

When we buy soap in the mall, we all have the habit of smelling it. Since you want to smell it, I'll make a hole in the soap box so that you can smell enough.

Some students said that when eating French fries at McDonald's and KFC, they hoped to dip more ketchup. Sure, then make the head of the French fries bigger.

When we eat cookies, we will think, can cookies have multiple flavors? We made a modular biscuit with many flavors on the side, which can be stuffed in the biscuit. You can choose.

A classmate said that we have the habit of holding the cup in our hands in winter. He made a cup-shaped hand warmer.

He asked me, if someone really uses it as a cup? I suggested that he remove the bottom of the cup, which not only kept the shape of the cup, but also avoided this misunderstanding.

I often grow flowers. Flowers grow slowly, and when we water them, we will find that we can't water them. So, I made a groove on the edge of the flowerpot to water the flowers from the side.

I raised flowers for many years, but I kept them until I died. This process is endless, and I have been thinking, we are very concerned about flowers, so what is its root?

I made a flowerpot that can see the roots. Through the small acrylic glass window, you can see that the roots are slowly extending at the edge of the flowerpot, and you can also see whether the water is thoroughly poured.

We use tea bags to make tea, and sometimes if we are not careful, the label on the side will fall into the cup. My students put this little button-like thing on the side of the file cover on the cup wall so that the label won't fall into the tea.

This work is very interesting. I stipulate that students should hand in their homework at noon. This classmate bought a straw at the edge of the village around eleven o'clock. He painted many colors on this straw with various pens. Gave it to me.

I said, "What does this mean?" He poured a drink, bent the straw and a rainbow appeared.

Having said that, I really have to say that many of our works are very liked by students from many colleges and some young teachers in China, but they dare not do so. Because many colleges and universities judge design works differently from us, they will feel that they can't meet the workload.

Like this straw, how much work does it have? Five minutes. How many points should I give him? But the score I gave him was actually very high.

Just now I talked about the first creative method. The second way is to explore a perceptual expression between things by looking for the correlation between things.

At this time, I will ask students to write poems. Because writing poetry can train the expression of perception. Sometimes, things may not be related, but our understanding of things can connect these two unrelated things.

These two poems were written by the students when they were considering the design scheme. Very sad.

There is a poem I like very much, and I will take it out and read it every class.

What is very enjoyable about this poem is that we think the sun is warm and the poet thinks the sun is sweet.

I also often write poems. I once took this song to a national poetry competition and won a second prize. But I am an alias, and no one knows.

The following poem has a strong taste and was scolded by my parents. They said, "You are a university professor. How can you write such a poem? "

I hope every designer has a poetic spirit. Poetry is not only poetic, but also poetic if designers focus on the perception of products.

I saw this work in a small furniture store when I was traveling in Europe. He covered many small cabinets with reindeer skin.

When we knock on these doors of different sizes, it will make Meng Meng's sound. The shopkeeper said it sounded like a reindeer's voice, and he hoped to bring back the dead reindeer's soul. Very interesting.

This is an urn made by a student. We often say that after death, people go to heaven. He built a small house in the cloud-he said that after death, people might really go to the cloud and live in that small house.

When I was a child, eating alcoholic chocolate was a very happy thing. The student made a candle like wine chocolate.

When this candle burns slowly, the melted wax and soup in the middle make us feel as if we can smell the fragrance of wine and chocolate.

This birthday candle is made of branches by students. When we light it, the flame on it is like a small leaf. When we blew it out, we felt as if this wish had been blown away.
