Introduction: Why should we talk about socialist core values?

Where did the core values ??come from? At the 17th National Congress in 2007, we called it the Socialist Core Value System, and its key word was system. At the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, we called for three initiatives, and we came up with these 24 words: We advocated prosperity, democracy, civilization, and harmony; we advocated freedom, equality, justice, and the rule of law; we advocated patriotism, dedication, integrity, and friendliness. , after speaking these 24 words, there is a sentence below it, which is called actively cultivating and practicing socialist core values. In November 2013, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Opinions on Cultivating and Practicing Socialist Core Values". In this opinion, it was clearly stated that these 24 words are the basic content of the socialist core values ??and are the basis for our cultivation and the basic observance of the core socialist values. On February 24, 2014, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held its 13th collective study session. The content of the study was the core values ??of socialism. This is the biggest signal. After February 24, under the unified arrangement of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, newspapers, media, the Internet, and radio began to publicize these 24 characters. There were full-page advertisements. CCTV had a dedicated column, and many newspapers had them. Column, many seminars have been held, and everyone is paying more and more attention to core values.

Today, 35 years after reform and opening up, why do we emphasize the core socialist values ??for the first time? What is its importance and necessity? Let me share my opinion. Is it okay for everyone to understand it this way? A particularly important issue is that in the past 35 years, we have developed extremely fast and changed greatly, and our achievements have attracted worldwide attention and are obvious to everyone. What is our greatest achievement? Our greatest achievement in the past 35 years has been the economy. 35 years ago, we were basically poor, or there was no fundamental change, and the problem of food and clothing had not been fundamentally solved. Now that we have solved the problem of food and clothing, we are initially moderately prosperous, and then we are comprehensively moderately prosperous. Our economy ranked eleventh in the world before the reform and opening up. Now we rank second in the world. Our total GDP surpassed the United Kingdom and France in 2005, Germany in 2008, and Japan in 2010. This is a huge achievement. , attracting worldwide attention.

Our current GDP is the second in the world, and our economic aggregate is the second in the world. Note that it is not comprehensive national strength. Comprehensive national strength also includes military, science and technology, etc. There are still some gaps. When I talk about economic aggregate, we are second in the world. .

The next question is, what is our cultural soft power, the international influence of our core values, and our right to speak in the world? How do we gain such a voice and international influence? This is external.

Internally, society is changing too fast now, and various ideas and cultures are exchanging, blending, confronting, and conflicting. We call it globalization, digitization, informatization, networking, big data, and cloud computing. Young people's values ??and value judgments are increasingly showing independence, difference, diversity, and variability, and they are changing too fast. We have to face diversified social trends of thought, diversified interest demands, and diversified value judgments. How do we gather social consciousness? How to lead social trends? This is a particularly big problem right now. If you say it is good, he may say it is not good; if you say it is meaningful, he may say it is not. How do we gather social consciousness? How to lead social trends? It needs to have a spiritual banner, ideological guidance and cultural orientation, which are the core values ??of socialism, and use them to gather social consciousness and lead social trends in such a changeable, pluralistic and diversified society.

I think these are the two functions of socialist core values. We must have the right to speak and be influential externally. With GDP ranking second in the world, our soft power and right to speak must be greatly improved. Internally, we must gather social consciousness and lead social trends.
