Shanxi Energy College is an applied general undergraduate school approved by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. The college focuses on coal, electric power, and new energy majors. It mainly cultivates engineering and technical talents and management talents with comprehensive basic theoretical systems, outstanding professional skills, and strong practical abilities to serve energy enterprises and regional economic and social development.

At present, the college has been listed as a key construction project in the Shanxi Comprehensive Reform Experimental Zone, a pilot college for applied undergraduates in Shanxi Province, and a pilot college for the construction of "industry-education integration" in local universities across the country.
