Faire and jouer in French

Just like the example given by the landlord, it can be said that faire du tennis can also be said as jouer au tennis, but faire means not only having fun, but also participating. Jouer is of little significance in this respect. The two are often used interchangeably. However, there are also common fixed collocations. For example, we really don't say jouer au ski very much, but we often use faire du ski. This is the flexibility and contract of language, and we can't stick to grammar.
