During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the 4th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army was in Suichuan, Jiangxi Province Wudoujiang County and Beiling County Yongxin County fought back against the Kuomintang army's "advance and suppression" campaign.

The Battle of Wudoujiang refers to the battle on May 7, 1928, when Zhu De led the headquarters of the Fourth Red Army and the 28th Regiment to defeat two regiments of the enemy Yang Ruxuan's troops stationed in Jiangxi at Wudoujiang. The battle resulted in the Fourth Red Army's first major victory since its establishment - the victory in the Battle of Wudoujiang.

Wudoujiang River is an important part of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Area. There are complete trenches around the mountain that preserve the battle site of Wudoujiang, as well as some slogans written by the Red Army. To commemorate this glorious history, the Jiangxi folk song "Ten Sends to the Red Army" has sung the name of Wudoujiang all over the country.
