Credit Farm Scheme for Vegetable Supply to Hong Kong

The reason why the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong and the Vegetable Marketing Organization implemented the "Reputation Farm Plan" is that since 1987, the poisonous vegetable incident has been bothering Hong Kong people, which not only greatly affected their health, but also led to a drop in vegetable prices. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department believes that in order to effectively improve the problem, it is necessary to tackle the problem at the source, and start supervision as early as the vegetable production and planting stage to check whether farmers in vegetable producing areas use approved pesticides correctly and ensure the safety standards of products. More importantly, I hope to establish a system to let the public know that the vegetable product is a safe product at a glance, so as to protect the public's health and protect the interests of producers. Therefore, with the sincere cooperation of AFCD, food and marketing organizations and local farmers, the reputation farm project came into being.

At the beginning of the plan, the number of farms supported by local farmers or eligible for credit is increasing, and the number of credit vegetables is also increasing. In view of the development of agricultural land in Hong Kong into a new town, many local farmers have returned to China to farm. At that time, the daily demand for vegetables in the market reached more than 1000 tons, of which 40% was supplied by the mainland, and all the vegetable poisoning incidents involved the mainland vegetable market. Therefore, AFCD extends the source management to the production bases run by local farmers in China. Since most of the local farmers who return to China to farm are members of the Vegetable Federation, and the person in charge of the Vegetable Federation is familiar with the domestic vegetable operation, the Vegetable Federation is used as an intermediary to help extend the credit farm plan to these domestic vegetable farms for Hong Kong as the logistics origin of safe and high-quality vegetables for Hong Kong.
