There are three embassy districts in Beijing:

Beijing first embassy district 1:

The development and construction of the first embassy district in Beijing began in the late 1950s and was not completed until the early 1970s. The first embassy district is from the West Second Ring Road to the East Second Ring Road, east to Xiushui Street in Beijing, south to Jianguomenwai Street in Beijing and north to Ritan North Road.

2. Beijing Second Embassy District:

The second embassy district in Beijing was planned and developed in the 1960s and completed in the early 1980s. Beijing's second embassy district extends to Dongzhimenwai Street in Beijing in the west, to the East Third Ring Road in Beijing in the east, to Beijing Workers' Stadium Road in the south and to Malianghe South Road in the north.

3. The third embassy district in Beijing:

The third embassy district in Beijing started construction after obtaining the construction land permit from 1987. The third embassy district covers East Street of Liangmaqiao in the east, Liangmaqiao in the south and Caitai Flower Market in the north.

After the founding of New China, countries all over the world have successively established new diplomatic relations with China. At the end of 1950s, the new embassy district was built in Yabao Road near Jianguomen, and was later called the first embassy district.

With the increase of diplomatic relations, China rebuilt its embassy district in Sanlitun and Liangmaqiao in 1960s and 1990s respectively. Initially, the embassy district of Sanlitun was dominated by third world countries, and the embassies of developed countries such as the United States were located in Yabao Road, Jianguomen. However, with the increase of embassy staff, countries that were originally in the first embassy district gradually opened new sites in the third embassy district.
