Historical evolution of Dayan Township

Dayan Commune was established in 1961 and changed to Dayan Township during the system reform in 1983.

Dayan Township is a cultural township with a long history. This is the birthplace of Mulian Opera, a living fossil of Chinese drama, and the name of the theater is also derived from the Mulian Opera. This is also the hometown of Wu Yingji, a famous writer in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and a leader in the fight against the Qing Dynasty and the restoration of the Ming Dynasty. Huansha Village in the Guniujiang Experimental Area had 13 temples in ancient times, known as the "Jiuli Thirteen Temples"; among them, the famous Religious sites such as Shanqing Temple, Xifeng Temple, and Baiyun Temple still remain today. Yanjia Ancient Village is the residence of the descendants of Yan Ziling, a famous figure in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is known as the "Millennium Ancient Village". The typical ancient Huizhou residential buildings are well preserved. There are old mills, ancient ancestral halls and ancient buildings in the village that read the Red Army's march north to resist Japan, the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. Slogan walls with slogans from various periods; Yongfu Village, where the township government is located, is also a very ancient village. The ancient ancestral hall, ancient oil mill, ancient dwellings, ancient Hui Road and ancient camphor trees in the village are of great appreciation and research value. It was included in the feature film by CCTV-7's "Search the World" column and CCTV-4's "Chinese Civilization" column and was displayed in front of domestic and foreign audiences.
