People often say that Buddhist scriptures are composed of four groups, namely, Tang Priest, the Monkey King, Pig Bajie and Friar Sand. Why is the little white dragon often excluded?

Because the little white dragon is not a disciple of Tang Priest in a sense, but a mount. Now in the Journey to the West, everyone knows that Xiaobailong himself is the third prince of the West Sea Dragon King. Because he broke the dogma and was saved by the bodhisattva, Guanyin "sent the little white dragon to the deep stream, waiting for the Buddhist scriptures to come, becoming a white horse and making contributions in the west." Will make compensation. Later, after eating the Tang Priest's white horse, he was brought to Tang Priest by the Monkey King and Bodhisattva and became the White Dragon.

In this process, Xiao Bailong did not learn from his master from beginning to end, and he and Tang Priest were not apprentices. No matter where you are, the mentoring relationship is not just lip service, but two people. Since ancient times, there has been a very strict system of accepting disciples, which requires the name of Master to bow down. Just like Deyun Society now, an apprentice is an apprentice. Even if a word is given to a person who has no disciples, he is also a "sir" when addressing Degang Guo. Only when a branch is set up can it be officially introduced.

There are several people in the Monkey King who are different. They all conducted a guiding ceremony and were named. When the Monkey King was rescued from Wuzhishan, he made four obeisances to Tang Priest. While the pig was gaining enlightenment, "the monster worshiped Sanzang again and wanted to go with the west." I bowed to Monkey again and took the advanced one as my brother, so I called Monkey my brother. " Tang Priest is also called Bajie. When I arrived at Friar Sand, the book said, "I was about to shave my head with him, and then I paid homage to Pig, Sanzang and the Monkey King, so I was named Friar Sand.".

Therefore, because he worshipped the teacher, he was called the four great masters and apprentices, and Xiao Bailong didn't count if he didn't worship the teacher. On the way to learn the scriptures, the little white dragon has always appeared in the form of white. In the eyes of outsiders, Tang Priest is the four of them. After all, who would have thought that horses could become people? White can only be said to replace the role of white horse, and has nothing to do with learning from the scriptures.
