Why was the People's Navy born in Taizhou, Jiangsu?

At 2: 00 pm on April 23rd, 1949, Zhang Aiping, deputy commander of the Central China Military Region, presided over an important meeting at the headquarters of the Third Field Army in Baimamiao, Taizhou. It was this significant meeting that announced the establishment of New China's own navy! Starting from Taizhou, the Young People's Navy has grown into a mighty division. "The White Horse Temple was born here, not relying on rivers or the coast, which is really puzzling." In the winter sunshine of 65438+February, a student of Jiangsu Animal Husbandry Medical College was so emotional.

The South Campus of Jiangsu Animal Husbandry Medical College is the former site of the Third Field Army Command. To the students' surprise, the small courtyard in front of the dormitory building with the normally closed doors turned out to be the birthplace of the China People's Navy. When it comes to the geographical location of Taizhou on the map, most people don't understand: wasn't the navy born at the seaside?

Pushing open the antique black paint door, a two-story building with Qing dynasty style appeared in front of you, just like an ordinary landlord manor. The carved paintings on the small building are exquisite, but the big iron anchor sculpture in the yard and the slogan on the wall remind the viewer of the extraordinary place of this small building. The slogan reads "Fight against the Yangtze River and liberate all China!" The words black on a white background stand out.

The staff particularly emphasized that this place still maintained its old appearance. The second floor of the Qing-style building is the operational command room of the naval birth and crossing the river campaign headquarters. It was here that General Zhang Aiping announced the establishment of the People's Navy. The reporter saw that there was a rectangular conference table with a military green tablecloth, a ticking telegraph table and a black old telephone in the command room. There are portraits of two great men, Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu De, on the wall, and a battle map full of red arrows, depicting the magnificent battle of crossing the river that year.

It is reported that in March of 1949, millions of heroes crossed the Yangtze River, and the third field army stationed in Baima Temple accepted the task of forming a navy. At that time, the main leaders of Sanye, Chen Yi, Su Yu and Tan Zhenlin, were all members of the General Front Committee, and all their attention was focused on this movement. Zhang Aiping, then deputy commander of the Central China Military Region, was ordered to form a navy independently.

On April 23rd of that year, on the same day that the People's Liberation Army crossed the natural barrier of the Yangtze River and planted the red flag of victory in the Nanjing Presidential Palace, Zhang Aiping held the first meeting to form the People's Navy in Baima Temple. 13 people attending the meeting became the first members of the People's Navy in New China. A year later, on June+10/2, 65438, the chairman issued an order to appoint Xiao as the commander of the Chinese people's liberation army navy and set about forming the naval leadership. At this point, the People's Navy officially became an independent service of the China People's Liberation Army.

This history is concentrated in the exhibition room on the west side of the building, and the first floor of the building is the office and bedroom of Zhang Aiping and other generals. Simple bedding, a white towel and an old kerosene lamp can vaguely make people imagine those sleepless nights when Zhang Aiping and others planned the navy here.

1982, the former site of Du Jiang headquarters of Baimamiao in Taizhou City was listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit. In August 1986, 1, the name of the ship "Taizhou" of the navy's East China Sea Fleet made Taizhou an "inland" city, which was called "the mother city of sailors" by naval soldiers.
