If there is only one person in the world, there is no moral problem at all, and there is no problem for yourself. How to deal with public-private relations is the core of ethical relations. Therefore, China's traditional morality puts "public interest" (putting the overall interests before personal interests) and "benevolence" (love) in a prominent position, and advocates "the world is public", "the world is one country", "worrying about the world first and enjoying it", "every man is responsible for the rise and fall of the world" and so on. This view has carried out the whole history of the Chinese nation. In particular, Zhang Boling is a modern democratic educator and Mao Zedong is a proletarian revolutionary, but their generalizations of human qualities are highly consistent.
Mao Zedong's speech at 1942 Yan 'an Forum on Literature and Art talked about measuring literary and artistic works, which are also two standards to measure the quality of literary and artistic workers. He called one a political standard and the other an artistic standard. The former is a question of why people are, while the latter is a question of how people are and how their artistic level is. Among all kinds of virtues, "public" is the main one, and Marxism calls it socialist collectivism. Both are indispensable. It is one-sided to emphasize only one aspect or one aspect.
