Taobao is a large online retail district in the Asia-Pacific region. It was invested and founded by Alibaba Group on May 10, 2003. Taobao's current business spans two parts: C2C (person-to-person) and B2C (business-to-person). As of 2014, Taobao has more than 500 million registered members and more than 120 million active users every day. The number of online products has reached 1 billion. The total transaction volume of Taobao and Tmall platforms has exceeded 1.5 trillion. On April 1, 2015, Taobao officially launched the upgrade of Taobao stores from "real-name authentication" to "real-person authentication" to prevent online dishonesty and crack down on counterfeit shops. On May 14, 2015, Taobao was suspended or divested within six months by Taiwan’s economic authorities. On August 25, 2015, the Guangdong Consumer Council officially sent a letter to Taobao, requesting that merchants correct their improper business practices.
