The Origin and Legend of March 3rd of Li Nationality

Li is one of the ethnic minorities in China. "March 3" has been a traditional auspicious day for Li and Miao people to commemorate their ancestors, celebrate their new life and praise their lives since ancient times. This day is also a day to express love to the woman you love, and it is a grand traditional festival for the Li people. Then, let's go into the Li culture and understand the origin and legend of March 3.

March 3 (the third day of the third lunar month) is the largest traditional folk festival of Li nationality in Hainan province, and it is also a beautiful day for Li youth. Also known as love plot love day, it is called "Fu Nian Fu" in Li language. It is held on the third day of the third lunar month every year. It is a traditional festival for Li people in Hainan to mourn their hardworking and brave ancestors and express their yearning for love and happiness.

Statement 1:

Legend has it that in ancient times, Li people living in Changhua River suffered a big flood. Only a couple survived sitting in a gourd ladle and were drifted to the edge of Bird's Nest Mountain. On March 3, the flood receded and they got married. Men plow and women weave, have children, care for each other and work hard, which gradually makes the Li nationality multiply and develop. Later generations regard them as ancestors and solemnly commemorate them on March 3 every year.

In festivals, men, women and children are dressed up and eating cakes and zongzi. Boys fish, girls cook and fish, and then offer sacrifices to caves with Tian Fei and Guanyin fossils. After the sacrifice, the young people came to the activity venue to shoot arrows, climb poles, wrestle, tug-of-war and swing. As night falls, bonfires are lit on the shore, young men open flower umbrellas, and girls' silver ornaments and shell ornaments flash in the fire.

Love songs are euphemistic, and the dance gradually rises, from gentle lyricism to unrestrained joy. Sometimes couples leave the bonfire quietly. Young people hang ear bells on girls' ears, insert hair clips made of deer bones into girls' bun, and girls tie their carefully woven colorful belts around their lovers' waists. The two sides vowed that they would meet on March 3 next year. Because March 3 is related to marriage and love in terms of its origin and main activities, it is also called love plot.

Statement 2

Legend has it that a long time ago, there was an evil crow spirit in the cave, which made it impossible for the Lebanese people to live and work in peace and contentment. One day, the crow spirit caught the beautiful Li girl, Luo Cha Niang. On March 3 this year, Gui, the sweetheart of Russian mother, went up the mountain with a sharp knife and bow to save her, and was killed by the crow essence. Hearing this news, the Russian mother was very sad, and finally killed the crow essence while it was sleeping, revenged for Agui, and saved the Li people from great harm.

My mother has never been married. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, she goes to Emei Cave to sing her love songs when she was in love with Aqi. Later, in memory of her, the Li people named this cave Erniang Cave (Changjiang). On March 3 every year, unmarried young men and women of the nearby Li nationality gather in Goose Fairy Ridge to sing love songs in search of their Mr Right. This activity has expanded year by year, and spread to various Li inhabited areas in Hainan, forming a grand traditional festival for Li people in Hainan.

There is also a saying that March 3 is a festival to commemorate the birth of the ancient ancestor "Li Mu" of the Li nationality and celebrate the happiness and prosperity of the Li people.
