When was the Bianhe River dug?

Bianhe River was dug in the first year of Sui Daye (AD 605).

Brief introduction of the ancient Bianhe River:

In the first year of Yang Di the Great (605), an ancient canal was dug. It is divided into east and west sections: the west section starts from Luoyang, the eastern capital, and draws water from Gushui and Luoshui in the west, and draws the old Xunyang Canal from Luoshui to the Yellow River in the east; The eastern section starts from Banzhu (now Xingyang North, Henan Province).

After the Sui Dynasty, people in the Tang and Song Dynasties called it Bianhe River, which was the first phase of the Sui and Tang Grand Canal and the best preserved section at present. From the county seat to lin huai zhen via Shitou Village and Chengtou Township, it flows into Hongze Lake, with a total length of 34.32 kilometers in Sihong. In ancient times, the ancient Bianhe River became an important part of the north-south traffic artery and a water transport hub, and there was a grand occasion of "officials and guests filled the Huaihe River, and horses and chariots gathered".

Bianhe old road:

The old Bianhe Road has been silted up above Lingbi for a long time, reaching the Tanghe section below Lingbi. In the early days of liberation, there was a river shape. After years of land leveling, the riverbed disappeared. Only the Sui Dyke is still slightly undulating. There is still a section of river from the east of the city to Shuikou Weizhuang. The section from Weizhuang in Shuikou to Hongzhuang in Sihong County (east of Magongdian) was replaced by Xinhe River. The old road below Hongzhuang has become a river in Sihong County since the third regulation of 1966, and it is not connected with the new Hesui River.

The ancient Bianhe River enters Sixian from Yuji's Tomb, Lingbi County, passes through Changzhigou, Zhouzhuang and Peng Pu in east longitude, and crosses the east side of Sisu Highway. Locals call the eastern part of the city the East Bianhe River and the western part of the Tanghe River the West Bianhe River. The East Bianhe River passes through Weizhuang, Kuhetou and Tonghaidian in Shuikou to Magongdian in Sihong County for about 20 kilometers, joins with Xiejiagou (Laohe Suihe River) water, flows eastward to Qingyang Town, turns southeast, and enters Hongze Lake through Shiji, Chengtou and Huaitou.

Another tributary flows from Sicheng West to the south through the south gate, crosses 10 km to Liang Shi Zi in the south of Wang Ba, goes south to Days Mirror Lake, and flows into Huaihe River from Hutong River. In the 12th year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1673), Gong Qiyi called this river Nantong River in Hong Xianzhi, and now it is commonly known as Liang Shi River.

Bianhe River passes through Weizhuang, Kuhetou, Magongdian and Qingyang to the south, and there are still unearthed objects to prove it. 195 1 During the reign of Lu, several stones of millet were dug up in the south bank of Kuhetou. In the past, it was said that the Sui Dynasty opened the Bianhe River, and there was a saying that "millet took a boat". From Kuhetou to Tonghaidian, the terrain is relatively high and shipping is blocked. It seems that millet has replaced water.
