Note: Dong Fuxiang (1839-1908) was a native of Guyuan County, Ningxia Province. In the mid-19th century, he led the peasant uprising army to resist the Qing Dynasty. After the defeat, he surrendered to Liu Songshan. His troops were organized into Dong 3rd Battalion, and later participated in suppressing the peasant uprising in the northwest. In 1875, he followed Zuo Zongtang into Xinjiang and expelled Tsarist Russia's lackey Aguba. Zuo Zongtang was still very old at that time. During the battle to regain Xinjiang, he always appeared in the army as a tough guy from the northwest, making plans and taking the lead. Zuo Zongtang praised his military exploits as "the first achievement in recovering Xinjiang". He guarded Xinjiang as the Admiral of Ka (the highest military and political official in Xinjiang), and the foreign powers did not dare to act arrogantly. Later, he was awarded the title of Shangshu and crowned Prince Shaobao, controlled the military power of the Manchu and Han Dynasties, and helped Lafayette sort out the country's broken house.

Under the instructions from the Queen Mother, he led his northwest soldiers to start a military operation to massacre the peasant uprising in the northwest. Participated in obliterating the Reform Movement of 1898. In 1900, the Eight-Nation Allied Forces invaded Beijing. When various Qinwang troops retreated without a fight, he led the northwest soldiers to resist the Eight-Nation Allied Forces to the death. After the fall of Beijing, he helped the Western Empress Dowager and Emperor Guangxu flee to the northwest, becoming the most trusted figure around the Western Empress Dowager.

After the signing of the "Xin Chou Treaty", he was dismissed and returned to his hometown with the title of Shaobao.

In 1908, he passed away at Dong's Mansion in Jinji Town, Wuzhong County, filled with melancholy and guilt about the affairs of his family, country and world.
