What does it mean to expand domestic demand?

The demand of "expanding domestic demand" refers to the demand of domestic consumption, and also refers to the demand of purchasing power.

Take housing as an example. Housing is a kind of consumer goods. The development of housing construction will certainly promote the production and development of building materials including steel, cement, glass and other industries, and also promote the development of other means of production. If the means of subsistence such as houses cannot be consumed, the production of related means of production will also shrink. It can be seen that the so-called "expanding domestic demand" ultimately refers to the demand for expanding living consumption. Therefore, Marx divided social production into two categories: the production of means of production and the production of means of subsistence, indicating that the production of means of production must be adapted to the production of means of subsistence, and the process of reproduction can be carried out normally, which is the internal relationship of material production.
