What happened to Liu Xiaoqing’s tax evasion incident?

On July 24, 2002, with the approval of the Second Branch of the Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate, Liu Xiaoqing was arrested in accordance with the law. On April 4, the Beijing Municipal Local Taxation Bureau transferred the case to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau in accordance with the law. On April 24, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau criminally detained the persons responsible for the case, Jing Jun (Liu Xiaoqing’s brother-in-law) and former accountant Fang Li of Beijing Xiaoqing Culture and Art Co., Ltd. On May 30, Jingjun and Fang Li were arrested in accordance with the law. On June 18, the person responsible for the case, Ran Yihong (also known as Liu Xiaohong, Liu Xiaoqing’s sister), was criminally detained.

The Beijing Municipal Local Taxation Bureau released the bank deposit of 1.96 million yuan from Beijing Xiaoqing Culture and Art Co., Ltd. into the treasury in accordance with the law on May 9.

On June 20, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau criminally detained Liu Xiaoqing in accordance with the law and detained him in the Beijing Detention Center under the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

On August 25, the relevant person in charge of the Beijing Local Taxation Bureau announced that Liu Xiaoqing also obtained income through participating in commercial performances, shooting advertisements, providing portrait rights, and renting out personal properties, and signed a contract with the payer. False income contracts are used to conceal income; at the same time, for income that is not taxed in accordance with the law, the tax authorities still refuse to declare taxes even when the tax authorities notify them to declare.
