The stone statues are exquisitely carved and have a strong sense of texture, just like silk is to Taiwan Province. However, why can only this kneeling Buddha be seen in the dark cave? Looking around the cave, I found the answer-a skylight opened above the stone statue in the opposite direction. The skylight forms a 45-degree angle with the stone statue, and the light passes through the skylight and hits the Buddha statue. This is the ancient "spotlight". The ancients skillfully used the optical principle in the design, which solved the lighting problem and protected the environment at the same time, and did not use other kindling light sources to cause pollution in the cave. This is also the embodiment of the ancient philosophical concept of the unity of man and nature, which has to be convincing and can be called a fine work in Dazu stone carving art.

If you say a few words in the cave, you will find that there is no obvious echo. Careful observation is because the stone walls in the cave are uneven, which reduces the echo. It can be seen that the ancient people's reflection principle of sound waves is clear. Therefore, the uneven stone wall is used to make the sound waves emit disorder and cancel each other, resulting in the echo disappearing. This almost coincides with the echo processing of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing built after liberation, but the former is more than 800 years earlier than the latter.

More unique is its drainage system. If you look carefully in rainy days, it is not difficult to find that among the many stone statues around the cave, there is a hand sitting on the stone statue constantly receiving water. Looking up with your arms, you can see a long dragon winding on the stone wall. Shilong swallows water into the body and then discharges it along the body. The discharged water flows into the underground tunnel through the hand of the stone statue, and then is discharged outside the hole. It's really wonderful. Compared with the modern underground drainage system, it can be said to be comparable.

Mechanics and perspective principles in the stone carvings of Sakyamuni, Pu Xian, Manjusri and Eighty-eight Buddhas.

There is a unique group of stone carvings on Baoding Mountain, namely "Sakyamuni, Pu Xian, Manjusri and Eighty-eight Buddhas". In the middle, Sakyamuni wore an open-necked cassock, and Pu Xian and Manjusri stood barefoot on the lotus platform in the left and right interiors. Pu Xian holds the pavilion Yu Dabao, and Manjusri holds the seven-story pagoda in his left hand. The uniqueness of stone carving lies in this manjusri statue. The seven-story pagoda held by Manjusri is nearly 1 high. 8 meters, weighing 350-400 kilograms, with an inclination of 10 degrees, but it has not fallen after more than 800 years of ups and downs. The reason is that the cassock and the hand form a huge triangle to support the pagoda. Among all kinds of structures, only the triangle is the most stable, which is what the textbook tells us. However, this principle of mechanics has been specifically applied here. We can only marvel at the ancient craftsmen.

Why do Sakyamuni, Pu Xian and Manjusri lean forward 10 degrees? This is because stone carvings are not only strong but also beautiful. In order to avoid the incongruity between the statues' bodies and their heads in people's vision, the statues' bodies are tilted by more than ten degrees. We know that this applies the perspective principle, which is only learned in contemporary art textbooks. Skillful craftsmen knew it in the Song Dynasty, but they also applied it. It's perfect. I have to praise it.

Decoration is three groups of symmetrical variants and broad curves, and the lines are rich and smooth. It is engraved with inscriptions and has 28 lines of 20xx words. This tripod series is a valuable material for studying slavery in the Western Zhou Dynasty.

Most of us are three-legged circles, but there are also four-legged Fang Ding, among which Simu Wuding is the most famous four-legged Fang Ding.

Simu Wuding was cast in the late Shang Dynasty. This tripod is magnificent in shape, weighing 832.84kg and being133cm high. This is the largest and heaviest bronze unearthed so far. Simuwu has ears, a square stomach and empty legs. On the exquisite Yun Leiwen, the main decorative names of some names have forms. At the junction of the four sides, it is decorated by the door, and the ear is decorated with fish. The texture of the four legs is also unique. Its modeling, decoration and craftsmanship have reached a high level, and it is a representative work of the peak of bronze culture in Shang Dynasty.
