China has been deeply affected by opium poisoning in history. In the fifth year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1727), the British and Indian colonial governments, the East India Company and opium smugglers successively dumped opium into China. In the 19th year of Daoguang's reign (1839), 40,000 boxes of opium were imported into China. China loses about 5 million taels of silver every year due to drug abuse.
