Shanxi's intangible cultural heritage includes Pu Opera, Jin Opera, Hequ folk songs, Yanbei Children's Play, miscellaneous gongs and drums, folk social fire, Zhongyang paper-cut, Linxian Daoxi, Yicheng Huagu, Zuo Quan coloratura, Hequ Errenzhuan, Xiaoyi Qiang, Wutai Mountain Buddha Music, Shangdang Bayinhui, Tianta Lion Dance and so on.

Shanxi intangible cultural heritage

Pu Opera, also known as Zhou Pu Bangzi, is a local traditional drama in Linfen and Yuncheng. Named after its origin in Xupu County, it is good at expressing generous and tragic historical stories.

Shanxi Opera is one of the four major Bangzi operas in Shanxi, also known as Shanxi Bangzi and Zhonglu Bangzi. It originated in the central part of Shanxi, and is mainly popular in the north-central part of Shanxi, with smooth melody and soft and mellow tunes.

Hequ folk songs are mainly popular in Hequ County, Shanxi Province, and belong to one of the traditional music. The euphemistic lyrics and beautiful tunes mainly reflect productive labor and love for acacia, and are full of simple and sincere local flavor.
