How to harvest hawthorn and post-harvest treatment?

Hawthorn used for storage should be picked later. Late-harvested fruits have increased yield, accumulated sugar, bright colors, thickened cuticle wax, improved quality and storage resistance. In addition, the temperature in the late harvest period is reduced, and the temperature of fruiting body is low, which is beneficial to storage.

The suitable harvest time of hawthorn should be when the fruit turns red, the fruit point is obvious and the fruit stalk is separated.

Hawthorn for long-term storage should be cut off with scissors or picked by hand, and then spread cloth or sacks under the tree to avoid falling. It can also be sprayed with 600 ~ 800 μ g/g ethephon one week before harvest, and the fruit drop rate is 68% ~ 98%.

After the fruits are harvested, they should be selected and graded, and the damaged fruits and diseases and pests should be picked out. Then spread the selected fruit in a ventilated and cool place, with a thickness of only 30 cm, so as to dissipate heat.

In the process of pre-storage, it is necessary to prevent wind, rain and sun exposure, cover with straw mats and reed mats during the day and uncover the heat dissipation at night. When the surface of the fruit is not wet, it can be put into the cellar or stored in the warehouse.
