Do you need a driver's license for electric cars?

Whether an electric car needs a driver's license depends on whether it belongs to an electric bicycle or an electric motorcycle. After the implementation of the new national standard for electric vehicles, electric vehicles are divided into two categories: electric bicycles belonging to non-motor vehicles and electric motorcycles belonging to motor vehicles. Among them, electric bicycles belonging to non-motor vehicles do not need a driver's license, while electric motorcycles belonging to motor vehicles need a driver's license, and they must be licensed, paid compulsory insurance and inspected regularly before they can legally drive on the road.

Electric bicycles and electric motorcycles are distinguished according to certain standards. For electric bicycles that are non-motor vehicles, it is required to have pedal riding devices similar to bicycles, with the body weight not exceeding 55 kg, the top speed not exceeding 25 km/h, the motor power not exceeding 400 watts, the battery voltage not exceeding 48 volts, and the wheelbase of front and rear wheels not exceeding1.25m, etc. And they all meet these standards to belong to electric bicycles that don't need a driver's license.

An electric motorcycle belonging to a motor vehicle shall use a motorcycle driving license. There are three kinds of motorcycle driver's licenses: D license, E license and F license, among which D license can drive all types of motorcycles including three-wheeled fuel motorcycles, three-wheeled electric motorcycles, two-wheeled fuel motorcycles and two-wheeled electric motorcycles, regardless of engine displacement. No matter whether the tricycle is a steering wheel or a steering handle, and whether there is a cab or not, as long as the model is a motorcycle, the D license plate can drive. Its quasi-driving models include E-certificate, which can drive all two-wheeled fuel motorcycles and two-wheeled electric motorcycles, but can't drive three-wheeled motorcycles regardless of the engine displacement. E license driving models include F license driving models. Certificate F can only drive two-wheeled light fuel motorcycles and two-wheeled light electric motorcycles with engine displacement below 50cc (excluding 50cc), and no passengers are allowed.
