2. Students' Union during the Liberation War

In the 36th year of the Republic of China (1937), on May 4th, the slogan of Shanghai Law School commemorating the May 4th Movement was torn, and students were beaten and injured. On the 6th, students of Shanghai Law School went on strike and petitioned the mayor. On May 8th, Shanghai junior colleges set up the May 4th Support Association to support France. On May 17th, Jiaotong University, Shanghai Medical College, Jinan University, Tongji University, Kindergarten College, Music College, Fudan University and Merchant Shipping established the National Union of University Students.

On May 22nd, the Anti-Violence League convened a meeting of representatives from all schools in the city to discuss the establishment of the Shanghai Students' Union, and representatives from 12 schools attended the meeting, and decided to hold a general strike in the city from 23rd to 24th. On May 31st, the Shanghai Federation of Students was formally established. Seven schools, namely Jiaotong University, St. John's University, Datong University, Jinan University, Tongji University, Soochow University and China Business School, were elected as the presidium, and an executive committee was formed. At this point, the student movement began to converge under the same goal of anti-civil war, anti-hunger and anti-persecution. On June 19th, the Shanghai Municipal Government announced the banning of the Shanghai Federation of Students, and the Shanghai Federation of Students was forced to go underground.

On May 5, 1949, the Shanghai Students' Federation was established. At the beginning of its establishment, it called on all the students in the city to resume classes, resume schools and nurse schools quickly, and participate in maintaining school order, propaganda work and strengthening the study of new-democratic revolutionary theory. The aim of the Students' Union is to unite all the students in Shanghai, seek their welfare, strive for the complete victory of the new-democratic revolution and strive to build the Chinese people's Republic. 3. Students' Union after liberation
