American short story writer and founder of modern American short stories, whose main works include The Gift of the Magi, The Police and Hymns, The Last Leaf, etc. O Henry, together with Chekhov and Mo Bosang, is one of the three greatest short story masters in the world. He was once praised by critics as the Laureate Prose Writer in Manhattan and the father of modern American short stories. His works are known as "the encyclopedia of American life".
