The villagers living in the depths of Kanas Mountain are called Tuwa people, and they are also called people in the forest in history. There are only over 2,000 Tuwa people in China, which is equivalent to one Tuwa for every 650,000 people in China. The area where they live is limited to Altay in northern Xinjiang. Altai Mountain has been their home for hundreds of years.

Kanas, Harmony and Baihaba villages around Kanas Lake are the main gathering areas of Tuwa people in China. In terms of ethnic division, Tuwa people are recognized as a branch of Mongolian.
