What is MMS?

The full name of MMS is "multimedia message service", which is literally translated as "multimedia short message service", commonly known as "MMS". It is the "third generation short message service" after SMS and EMS. Text messages can only be sent and received. EMS can add ringtones, simple graphics and simple animations to short messages. MMS greatly expands the types of media that can be sent and received. Words, simple pictures and ringtones are natural, and complex pictures such as photos, big charts, music clips and video clips are the place where MMS comes in.

MMS is sent and received based on SMTP protocol, which is a bit like ordinary mail. Like SMS and EMS, MMS also uses the "store and forward" transmission mechanism, which must go through an exchange server (MMSC), and the server decides whether to store or forward to the destination immediately.
