HTTP Error 403.6- Access Denied: The IP address of the client was denied.

When you use a Web browser to connect to an Internet information service, you may receive the following error message:

HTTP 403.6-forbidden: IP address denied.

cause

Each client has a unique IP address. If the server defines a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access this site, and the IP address you use is in this list, you will receive this error message.

This is a function used to authorize or deny specific users access to websites, directories or files.

solution

To solve this problem, do the following: 1. Use the Microsoft Management Console to open the Internet Information Server (IIS) snap-in and select the website that reports the 403.6 error. Right-click the website, virtual directory or file where the error occurred. Click Properties to display the property sheet of this project.

2. Select the appropriate directory security or file security property page. Under IP address and domain name restrictions, click Edit.

3. In the IP address and domain name restriction dialog box, if the access denied option is selected, please add the IP address, network ID or domain of the computer that needs to access the exception list.

In the IP Address and Domain Name Restriction dialog box, if the Grant Access option is selected, delete the IP address, network ID or domain of the computer that needs to access the exception list.

Important note:? When setting the security properties of a specific website, the same security properties will be automatically set for the directories and files belonging to the website, unless the security properties of individual directories and files have been set before.

? When you try to set the security properties of a Website, the web server will ask you if you are allowed to reset the properties of individual directories and files. If you choose to reset these properties, the previous security settings will be replaced by the new settings. When setting the security attributes of a directory, the same is true if the directory contains subdirectories or files with previously set security attributes.

Attention:? By default, some sites can only be accessed from the IP address 127.0.0. 1, which corresponds to the computer name localhost and is regarded as an address/name different from the NetBIOS or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the Web server. To access a site limited to local hosts, you must operate on the console of a computer with local host restrictions.

? The computer that accesses your server through the proxy server will display the IP address of the proxy server.

? Restricting by domain name is not recommended, because it will force the Web server to perform a reverse DNS lookup for every connection pointing to the site, thus reducing the performance of the Web server. Reverse lookup will not only increase the load on the Web server, but also lead to unexpected rejection.
