How do prisoners send text messages to the outside?

Generally, prisoners are not allowed to send text messages, and individual prisons can send family members text messages after review.

According to the regulations on prison management, the contact information between prisoners and their families is not only letters, but also home phone. Correspondence takes a long time, and many foreign prisoners often have to wait a week to receive letters from their families. Home phones are only open to prisoners who behave well. Prisoners don't have cell phones and can't send text messages at will. Some prisons have opened a "short message platform for family members", trying to report good news without worrying, and the content should be reviewed.

Article 47 of the Prison Law stipulates that a prisoner may communicate with others during his sentence, but the communication shall be inspected by the prison. Letters found in prisons that hinder the reform of criminals may be detained. Letters written by criminals to higher authorities and prison judicial organs are not subject to inspection.
