Pavlov defended the war against 23 Soviet soldiers. Why didn't the Germans attack for a long time?

The Battle of Stalingrad in World War II was an important battle and a turning point in the Soviet-German war. The two sides fought fiercely in this strategic place 199 days, and every inch of land became a bloody battlefield. One of the most classic battles is the battle of Pavlov Tower.

Pavlov building used to be just an ordinary little red building, in the center of Stalingrad. Under the constant bombardment of German artillery, the surrounding buildings have become ruins. Not far from here is an important dock, through which the Soviet Union's material transshipment work will be transshipped, and because this building stands alone, it has become the only commanding height to observe the surrounding enemy situation.

So when the Germans took the lead in capturing this place, the Soviet Union sent a six-member team led by Pavlov to launch a raid in the dark and regain control of the building. Before and after the Soviet Union sent 17 people, who came here with heavy machine guns, anti-tank rifles, mortars and other weapons for support.

Then, at this time, 23 Soviet soldiers were stationed in the building. Facing the crazy German offensive, they fought for 58 days until the German army retreated. So what caused the Germans to delay attacking this strategic location?

First, the spirit of cooperation between the Soviet Union and Qi Xin.

In fact, the Soviet Union is a multi-ethnic country. At that time, the soldiers guarding the building included Russians, Tajiks and even a Jew. Although they have different nationalities and skin colors, these people are all working together for the same goal.

There are still some civilians in the building who haven't had time to evacuate. These people refused the request of the Soviet army to transfer them safely and resolutely stayed to help fight the enemy.

They not only take care of the daily life of soldiers, but also do nursing work for the wounded. They also dug trenches, sent messages, and even picked up guns and fired at the enemy in times of crisis. Therefore, this battle is not only the victory of 23 people, but also the United victory of the brave and strong Soviet people, and it is the epitome of the whole Stalingrad war and even the whole anti-fascist war.

Second: the excellent strategy and tactics of the Soviet Union.

The entire four-story building was built into a solid bunker by the Soviets, and mortars were placed in the attic, which could fire on the Germans at the commanding heights.

The anti-tank gun is placed on the fourth floor, which can aim at the relatively weak place at the top of the tank to attack.

The third floor is the location of the observation post, where the sentry observes the enemy situation every day. Snipers and riflemen are also lurking here.

The second floor is a great place to throw grenades.

The first floor is controlled by heavy machine guns. The command post is located in the basement, where all kinds of materials are transshipped, which is relatively safe. There is even a lounge where soldiers can work and rest, with chess and books.

The rooms in the building are all open, which is convenient for soldiers to move around the windows in the building. The window glass is removed, and sandbags are used as a cover on the windowsill, which is convenient for heavy machine guns to fire and is also suitable for throwing grenades, which is very lethal.

Outside the building, the Soviet army first isolated the building from the outside world with layers of wire. The outer layer of the wire is a cold water ditch more than one meter deep. In the cold winter, the water in the ditch is biting, and jumping is equivalent to losing combat effectiveness. The other layer is a dense minefield. If the Germans want to attack at close range, the first thing to meet them is stealth mines.

Pavlov building also dug a tunnel and connected it with another nearby Soviet site flour mill building. During the war, they always got the support of their comrades.

Third: German arrogance and stupidity.

Generally speaking, the German attack on Stalingrad brought reckless factors. Because Germany used lightning tactics to be invincible on the battlefield at the beginning of World War II, Hitler thought that Stalingrad seemed at his fingertips.

He set up a smoke screen to make the Soviets think that he would attack Moscow, but unexpectedly launched an attack on Stalingrad, which caught the Soviets off guard and hoped for a quick victory. However, he ignored the tenacious will and combat capability of the Soviet army, so that he was finally dragged into the quagmire of street fighting.

In fact, the Germans took control of the building in September and placed a lot of materials here. However, they didn't send too many people to guard here. Pavlov wiped out all the Germans here with only six men, which shows that their defense is very lax.

This building stores a large number of strategic materials left by the German army, ranging from guns and ammunition to food and medicine. So the team doesn't have to consider the problem of material supply at all. It's not easy to hit the enemy with his gun.

The Germans were relatively isolated in the stage of street fighting. Not only did the air support become less and less, but the tanks also failed to exert their due power. The longer the time dragged on, the faster the German combat effectiveness declined due to lack of food and warm clothes.

Because of the above reasons, Pavlov led his comrades to repel the German attack again and again and won 58 days later. Later, the building was named after Pavlov to commemorate the classic battle of winning more with less.
