Why did an officer in the old movie "Attack on Pearl Harbor" say in Chinese: I am an American!

In the movie "Attack on Pearl Harbor", American officers spoke Chinese because China and the United States were allies at that time, because their bombers had to learn a Chinese sentence "I am an American" only after landing in Zhejiang, China and China.
