Ming Shi claimed that Chen Qiyu finally "died at home", but did not explain the cause of death. As a matter of fact, he was executed by the Qing Dynasty because of a haircut order. The whole process of this matter can be seen from a cabinet post entitled "The gentry and people of Liu, the governor of Sanjin County, violated the Tibetan silver and rectified the state officials' greed for silver" in the fifth year of Shunzhi (1648)1February 18.

According to the information disclosed in the post, Chen Qiyu, who was dismissed at home after the official promulgation of Yiling in the second year of Shunzhi (1645), was too old to shave his temples and the back of his head. In April of the fourth year of Shunzhi (1647), I often had dinner with the magistrate of Dezhou in Taiyuan, but I didn't notice that he shaved his hair. Later, He Xiong Fei borrowed 120 silver from Chen Qiyu's younger brothers Chen Qilian, Cao Xian, Qian Youku and Yan Keqi. The reason is that Taiyuan government urged him to increase money and grain.

On the eighth day of February in the fifth year of Shunzhi (1648), He Xiongfei returned to Zhou from Pianguan and met him first. A few days later, Chen Qiyu paid a return visit and said, "Take pholiota adiposa in a sedan chair with a hat and a net towel inside, and meet at the hotel before." . He Xiongfei scouted around. When he talked to Chen Qiyu alone, he found that he had hair, so they arrested him, took off his clean towel and confiscated pholiota adiposa.

Chen Qiyu immediately invited Wang Gao, Bei Zhi, Chen Shiwu, the former magistrate of Jizhou, and others to seriously protect the collar and wrote a complaint to protect Chen Qiyu. Chen Qiyu's concubine, Wang Junxiu, wanted to cover up his death sentence, so she cut off his hair with scissors.

He Xiong Fei reported the matter to Shi Yu, the capital, and was instructed: "Do things, store them, and check them quickly." Chen Qiyu will be put in prison soon. In order to get rid of the crime, Chen Qiyu sued He Xiongfei for taking bribes, saying that He Xiongfei often dined with him after his arrival. During the banquet, he borrowed money several times. He was greedy. On February 19, he asked for silver again, and took out a net towel from his sleeve and framed himself. When everyone took him home, he sent someone to ask him for money.

So, did Chen Qiyu shave his hair? Did Xiong Fei take the opportunity to blackmail and frame him? In order to find out this matter, the Qing dynasty sent people to conduct some investigations and found that these two things may exist at the same time. As a state official, He Xiong Fei was greedy for money and blackmailed Chen Qiyu, but Chen Qiyu didn't shave his hair. The reason is not that he misses the past plot, but that he can't bear to lose his hair when he is old, and there is not much hair in his temples and back of his head, which is very messy.
