Cutting sugar cane manually takes time and effort, but farmers are unwilling to harvest it by machine. Why?

During the Spring Festival, the most indispensable fruit in our family is sugarcane, which is simply delicious. In fact, many places in China have the habit of eating sugar cane in winter, which shows that sugar cane has won the hearts of the general public. Sugarcane is troublesome to eat and a great challenge to the mouth. Many old people say that the more sugar cane you eat, the better your mouth. Many foreigners can't understand why we should eat directly with our teeth instead of squeezing juice.

Sugarcane is troublesome to eat, but the harvesting process of sugarcane is more troublesome. Hard sugarcane is long and heavy, and its leaves will cut people, which brings many challenges to sugarcane harvesting. Now the automation is very developed, and it is fully capable of harvesting sugarcane with machines, but it is rare to harvest sugarcane with machines. I didn't know the reason until I went to the sugarcane field and asked the workers.

First, cause waste.

Because the sugarcane in the same field is different in height, it is impossible to choose the right sugarcane if it is harvested by machine. Unlike people, machines cannot be selected according to the actual situation, which often leads to great waste. And you can't cut all the sugar cane, some will stay on the ground and be overwhelmed by the machine.

Secondly, many impurities still exist.

When sugarcane is harvested, impurities such as leaves, tails and roots must be removed. These jobs are very complicated for the machine, which is difficult to clean. Sugarcane can be sold in the market, but many of them will be sent to sugar factories to make sucrose. The cleanliness of these sugarcane is relatively high. If the sugar factory is not clean, it is necessary to deduct money or give up the acquisition. If so, farmers may lose money.

Third, destroy sugar cane.

In the process of harvesting sugarcane, the machine not only destroys the epidermis of sugarcane, but also crushes the roots of sugarcane. Sugarcane is a plant that can be harvested for several years after planting. Generally, in 2008, if the roots are destroyed by machines, they will not continue to grow, which will add a lot of workload to farmers.

In view of the above three main reasons, farmers don't want to let machines harvest. Moreover, artificial harvesting can also create some jobs for local idle labor.
