How to grow tulips?

Tulip, also known as Yanglian, is a perennial herbaceous flower of Liliaceae, with a plant height of 20-40 cm and a flowering period of March-May. It blooms during the day and closes on cloudy days and nights.

Tulip has strong adaptability, likes sunshine and semi-shade, likes warm and humid environment in winter, likes cool and slightly dry environment in summer, and has strong cold resistance. Rooting should be above 5℃, which is suitable for growing on fertile sandy loam with rich organic matter and good drainage to avoid clay and wet waterlogging.

Tulip is a bulb flower planted in autumn, which blooms in early spring and sleeps in summer. The suitable growth temperature is 9 ~ 13℃, and the growth will stop below 5℃. The cultivation methods of tulip include field planting and pot planting. Open field planting should be carried out in the lee of the sun and in loose and fertile soil, and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied. From late September to late June 10, the planting should be carried out in the ditch or border, and the planting depth is suitable. Generally, the thickness of covering soil is twice that of the ball, watering after planting, and applying liquid fertilizer 2-3 times before and after germination and flowering. The cold area in the north should be covered with plastic film to prevent cold, and cleared as soon as possible before thawing in early spring. Plant potted plants in autumn, with 3-4 balls in each pot, and the top of each ball should be flush with the soil surface. After watering, they are placed in a cold bed or an empty sunny place. After 8- 10 weeks of low temperature, it was placed in a greenhouse at 5- 10℃, and the room temperature rose to 15- 18 after germination.

Tulips are prone to mosaic disease, which is a virus disease. Damaged plants become short, bulbs degenerate and are spread by aphids. Therefore, in addition to crop rotation, 10% imidacloprid wettable powder 1500 times solution should be used to control aphids in time.

Tulips are widely cultivated abroad, especially in the Netherlands, because of their early flowering, many colors and beautiful flower shapes. In recent years, cultivation in China has been increasing. Tulip is an important bulb flower in spring, suitable for cutting flowers, arranging flower beds and flower borders, and short and medium varieties can be used as potted flowers.
