However, friends once again failed to live up to expectations, and it is more than enough to lose them. After all, after struggling with him for so many years, Max's hate and love are entangled in a limited number of brothers, even if it is only on noodles. Although the impulse of noodles didn't make Max's plan consistent with the result, didn't make his career play the maximum effect, didn't make the strength and quality of the gang stronger with the pace of the times, although noodles made Max infinitely annoyed and always made the road ahead tortuous, noodles accompanied him through the most perfect years and the most carefree course after all. So, even if one day friends' friendship is no longer and friends have to be separated, he still chooses to stay where noodles have always lived (I don't know where Max came from) and stay with Deborah, a woman who noodles have never been able to pursue. Max and noodles are together, let the noodles leave through hate, let the noodles grow through complete entry, and finally make the noodles unforgettable by dying in the garbage mixer. Max loves noodles as much as noodles love Deborah. He loves noodles hopelessly and has been miserable all his life.

In the car, in response to Deborah's insistence on leaving, Noodles panicked and raped her in the opposite direction. The story of perfection and filth, rejection and acceptance, harshness and warmth, from the pipe flute's dullness, silence and trembling, seems that the old man is struggling to grasp the vibrant past dream, infinitely sentimental, infinitely cherished and infinitely reluctant. No matter how ugly, it is beautiful in his plucking, because it is a lost time. The darkness and evil of swords and shadows, the blood and terror of death are everywhere, and he jumped over it with familiarity. No matter what we missed, no matter how wrong the people with us were, just because it was our youth, just because they were entangled in our flesh and blood, and we collected them one by one, we were all relieved and left no bad feelings. Everything is not perfect, and neither is the movie. If I only choose a film that is close to perfection, I will choose Once upon a time in America in terms of my poor viewing volume and taste. Although it didn't win the Oscar and the three major European film festivals, imdb's ranking was not conspicuous, and its stories and skills were not so shocking.

However, Once upon a time in America is a unique film. Its mixed life, lyrical artistic conception like prose poetry, narrative perspective like a lifetime ago, and meaningful character setting make it still radiate the glory of Mika after more than 20 years. It was a pale yellow halo, soft and bright.

First, life is mixed.

Some people say that once upon a time in the United States has a whole life, which is the most concise and accurate film review. The perfection of life lies not in perfection itself, but in the mixture of perfection and ugliness, which people have experienced and experienced.

Evil exists in and around everyone's heart. Noodles viciously raped Carol while robbing diamonds. He had no excuse. At that moment, evil occupied the soul of noodles. Mequez's insidious killing of my brother's property for himself is only evidence of the filth of human nature.

Mequez's last confession could not erase his vicious life; Dominic lost his young life, but he achieved the most brilliant humanity in the film. At the end of the film, I want to save my brother's noodles by telling stories. I was lying alone in the shop laughing. Good and evil finally meet and laugh in the contest of life. Evil always needs redemption, and this redemption is good.

Second, lyrical artistic conception like prose poetry.

In my opinion, no director dares to poeticize the film as thoroughly as SergioLeone does, which goes beyond the director's own "macaroni" western films such as the Bounty Trilogy, and is also different from the golden routine of gangster films represented by The Godfather and Scorsese films.

The beauty of image also reflects the beauty of life. When the noodles saw Deborah dancing in the melodious music through the cracks in the wall, the light and shadow of the film gave off a soft light, and the awakening of a teenager's soul was completed. When simple Patsy waited for Paggy with a cream cake, between the germination of sex and the temptation of food, we saw Patsy's innocence and our childhood memories.

Even ugliness is given a tolerant color by the director in the lingering between the lens and light and shadow. When Deborah refused the courtship of noodles, wooden noodles destroyed her dream of life in the most vulgar way. The rape in the back seat of the car is not so much revenge on Deborah as self-abandonment.

Moriquand, the royal score master in Lionel, injected strange and elegant music into the film. The use of flute, harmonica and trumpet is amazing. Fourth, meaningful character setting.

The story of brothers turning against each other is not new. The gangster theme is godfather Zhu Yu. However, among the six brothers in Once upon a time in America, the faint opposition between noodles and Mequez, the deep affection between Patsy and cross-eyed, and the simplicity and sincerity of Fatmo and Dominic still show extraordinary dramatic tension. With Deborah, Carol and Peggy, this film about life and growth becomes complete and credible.

Robert De Niro's performance in this film has reached the peak of his career, so it's not to deny his outstanding performance in Taxi Driver, Angry Bull, Boy, deer hunter, Firewire and other films, but in the year of 1983, De Niro's state should be the real peak of his film career.

De Niro is 40 years old, which is the peak of an actor. He has the best experience, feeling and state, and it is good to meet such a masterpiece as Once upon a time in America. He convincingly explained the dullness and decay of noodles in middle age and the compassion and persistence of old age.
