Do cutting mountains and telling jokes mean the same thing?

1990 or so, Beijing Evening News also published a short article about "cutting mountains" in Beijing dialect. Soon, someone published an article in the "Hundred Words" column of the newspaper, saying that the word "cutting the mountain" should be "Kan" and cited an example of Yuan Qu as documentary evidence, but the "ridicule" in Yuan Qu refers to it. The author did not provide any other evidence to prove that "Kan" is the original word of "chop". However, because the author is an influential cultural person, although his article can't be justified in my opinion, it still attracts widespread attention, and even can be said to be a conclusion. Since then, Beijing Evening News changed "cutting mountains" to "talking about mountains", and other publications quickly followed suit.
