May 12, 2022 is China 14 National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day, with the theme of "Reducing Disaster Risk and Protecting a Beautiful Home".

In order to cooperate with the theme propaganda of National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day, China Public Relations Association, together with many units, issued the voice of disaster prevention and mitigation, spread the concept of disaster prevention and mitigation, and enhanced public awareness of disaster prevention and mitigation.

The origin of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day is related to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. On May 12, 2008, an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 occurred in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, which was the most destructive and widespread earthquake since the founding of New China. The earthquake severely damaged more than 6,543,800 square kilometers, affecting more than half of China and many Asian countries and regions.

The earthquake was extremely harmful, causing 69,227 people to die with a total population of 46.256 million. The pain gradually disappears, but the memory still exists. Since 2009, with the approval of the State Council, May 12 has been designated as the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day. On the one hand, it conforms to the demands of all sectors of society for disaster prevention and mitigation in China, on the other hand, it takes the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day as an opportunity to enhance the awareness of disaster prevention and mitigation among the whole people and enhance the emergency response capability of grass-roots units.
