In March this year, Nanning started the special rectification of drinking water sources in Yongjiang River. The municipal government has set up a leading group for law enforcement and rectification in Nanning, headed by executive deputy mayor Chen Ruixian, and its members include the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, Construction Bureau, Water Conservancy Bureau, Agriculture Bureau, Municipal Bureau, Maritime Safety Administration, Public Security Bureau, Radio and Television Bureau, Yongxin District Government, Jiangnan District Government and Municipal Water Supply Company. In the joint law enforcement activities, law enforcement officers jointly investigated and dealt with illegal crop planting sites and livestock breeding sites that had not been relocated within the time limit.

This year, substantial progress has been made in the law enforcement and rectification of Yongjiang drinking water source protection. Up to now, 87 cage farmers in Yongjiang drinking water source first-class protection zone have all been cleared and relocated. Clean up 270 mu of crops and 6 livestock breeding sites within the range of 30 meters to 80 meters on both sides of the beach; Complete the closure of the sewage outlet of the cannery meat joint factory; Check and standardize more than 200 ships' sewage discharge behavior; Investigate and deal with six ships illegally discharging waste oil, and further standardize the sewage discharge behavior of Shangyao and Xijiao Wharf; Set up 12 billboards in Yongjiang drinking water source protection area. The law enforcement and rectification of Yongjiang drinking water source protection has made progress in stages and achieved the expected results.

In 2004, Nanning Environmental Protection Bureau further strengthened the daily supervision and management of key wastewater discharge enterprises, promoted cleaner production of enterprises, and realized wastewater recycling and zero discharge, which was one of the powerful measures to control the pollution sources in Yongjiang River. The Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau actively promotes and guides enterprises to implement cleaner production, and realizes the recycling of wastewater from large enterprises in papermaking, sugar production and chemical production. At present, the unit water consumption of Nanning Sugar Paper Factory, Phoenix Paper Company and Nanhua Company is at the leading level in the whole industry, which has reduced the sewage discharge and achieved good results. According to the test data provided by Nanning Environmental Monitoring Station in 2004, the water quality of the reservoirs in the lower reaches of Yongjiang River has reached the third-class standard, which is two grades higher than the five-class water stage before reaching the standard in 2003, and the dissolved oxygen index has also improved.
