Shocked! Forwarding Weibo will lower your test scores.
Reposting is a basic function of social network, and it is irresponsible for you to split the information you haven't sorted out. In the simplest way, tell your friends who care about you: "Come and see this thing I like!"
But sharing something profound or meaningful written by others won't make you smarter. According to a new paper published in Computer in Human Behavior, forwarding will make you more stupid.
An international research team from Cornell University and Peking University explored the cognitive impact of sharing information on social networks. They found that retweet (re-blog) directly interfered with people's learning ability and memory level. This research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The researcher first invited two groups of China university students to browse a series of Weibo. One group was asked to forward Weibo which they thought was the most interesting, while the control group was not allowed to share any Weibo. In contrast, the students who forwarded Weibo lacked the memory of the content, and performed worse in the reading comprehension test, and the error rate was twice that of the control group. Moreover, the content of memory errors is often what they just shared.
Wang Qi, a professor of human development at Cornell University's School of Human Ecology, said: "Most people no longer send original content. You just share what you just read. But they don't realize that sharing has its downside. It will interfere with what we are doing. " Researchers believe that the process of deciding whether to share may consume people's cognitive resources. They call this situation "cognitive overload".
In the second experiment, the author gave two groups of students a copy of scientific research results and asked them to read it after deciding whether to share it. They found that the students who participated in the study failed again in the comprehension test.
Wang also said that sharing information on non-social networks will also affect people's cognitive ability. "In real life, students who take the exam immediately after exchanging information online may have worse test scores."
Another study, published in the 20 14 Royal Journal of Social Interface, also discussed the influence of social networks on analytical and memory abilities. They found that some behaviors on the Internet will have a negative impact on people's cognitive function.
This does not mean that people should give up forwarding information completely. After all, if everyone is silent, it will be difficult for the truth to spread from person to person. What we should abandon is the brainless choice of clicking the share button without knowing the content.
