1. The school was founded in 1952, formerly known as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It was formed by merging the aviation departments of Tsinghua University, Beiyang University, Xiamen University, Sichuan University and Chongqing University. The school was designated as a national key university on 1959, and was renamed Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics on April 2, 1988.

2. By February 2023, the school was divided into Xueyuan Road Campus and Shahe Campus, with a total area of over 3,000 mu and a total construction area of over 2.3 million square meters.
