According to Article 116 of Chapter II of the Criminal Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), "Whoever destroys a train, car, tram, ship or aircraft enough to overturn and destroy the train, car, tram, ship or aircraft, but has not caused serious consequences, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than ten years." Article 119 stipulates that "whoever destroys means of transport, traffic facilities, power equipment, gas equipment and inflammable and explosive equipment, thus causing serious consequences, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years, life imprisonment or death." The use of portable electronic devices such as mobile phones on an airplane may cause the airplane to capsize, which should be regarded as an illegal act and constitute a crime of endangering public safety.
